You are invited to participate in a research study investigating the relationship between personality and Electronic Gambling Machine (EGM) use. Participation is open to anybody aged 18 and over who has played EGM at least once in the last year.

Participation should take 15-20 minutes and involves completing an online survey where you will answer questions about the frequency of your gambling, your gambling preferences and your feelings about gambling. You will then be asked a series of questions relating to personality and stress. You will also be asked some brief demographic questions, about your age, sex, gender, location, education, and employment status.

There is no payment for participating in this study, however a voucher will be rewarded at random to one participant.

As a thank-you, you will be invited to leave your email address at the end of the study to be entered in a draw to receive an AU$50 Mastercard digital gift voucher. Your email address will be stored separately to your data, deleted after the draw, and will not compromise your anonymity.

The data collected will be presented in Ms Fiona O'Connor's master’s Dissertation and may also be presented at academic conferences or published in a peer-reviewed journal. The researchers named on this Information Statement, and other researchers who may join the research team in the future, may also re-analyse your data as part of future related or un-related studies.

Your confidentiality is assured as your data will be stored without reference to your name or other identifying information. At no point will you be asked to provide identifying information such as your name.

Following completion of the study, all responses will be saved on password protected computers where it will be stored securely.

Should the findings of the study be published, de-identified response data (allowing the reported findings to be verified) may be placed in a public data repository.  No individual participant will be identified in, or could be identified from, any published report or published dataset from this study.

Participation is entirely voluntary. Whether or not you decide to participate is your decision and will not disadvantage you. If you do decide to participate, you may withdraw yourself and your data from the project at any time (prior to submitting your data at the end), without reason or consequence.

Should you choose to withdraw from this study prior to its completion, we may retain and analyse any data collected from you up until that point. Since participation is confidential, there is no way of identifying your individual data once it has been submitted. It is therefore not possible to withdraw from the study after you have submitted your data at the end.
